Jarred - by Blake Bartlett
"I have had the pleasure of knowing Jarred for over 10 years now. We grew up playing soccer together and have been great friends over the years. Something to know about Jarred is that he is a man of positivity. I personally have never seen Jarred be negative towards a situation. Jarred is the one who tries to get people to look on the brighter side, the one when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. For instance, whenever we would lose a soccer game Jarred was already looking at how the team and himself could improve instead of dwelling on the loss. It was done and over with and there's nothing you can do about it, so Jarred's mindset immediately shifts to getting the positive out of every single situation. That is just one simple story of the many that I got to witness. Not only is Jarred positive, but he has always had a goofy spirit that could make anybody laugh. If you are having a bad day, go see Jarred because he sure will be there to cheer you up. While this whole cancer battle has been a long process, speaking to Jarred through it all has encouraged me to not complain and not to take a single moment for granted. Jarred found out he had cancer and did chemo for a very long time. Chemo did not finish the job so, another surgery was up next. After the procedure, the doctors said it was gone and the surgery went well. Months went by and Jarred went in for a checkup and unfortunately found out the cancer had come back and he would have to amputate his leg as soon as possible. After all these trials and tribulations, Jarred held it together and is one of the strongest men I know on the planet. I tried putting myself in his shoes the way he has handled this situation and there is no way I would have been able to hold up like he has. After his leg was amputated, I got the chance to go visit with him and see how he was doing. Without a doubt, Jarred was already making me smile in the first 5 minutes of being there because of how positive he was. Part of his leg was missing, but his whole heart was still there looking at the bright side. He showed me videos of the new, very amazing robotic leg he was hoping to get that would still allow him to go out and be active. I felt as if he was excited about this new adventure of getting a new leg and learning how to walk again. Jarred is strong, he is a trooper, kind, loving, caring, silly, and I can’t say this enough, but he is so darn positive. Kids say they want to grow up and be like all these superheroes, but for me, I want to grow up and have a mindset like Jarred."
